Cats can be incredibly vocal creatures. But did you know that most of their meows are saved just for us?
The only meowing between cats is done between a mother cat and her kittens. The cute little “mew” attracts the attention and care from the mum cat. In the wild, once the kitten has grown up the meows naturally stop.
But this is not the case for domestic cats, as they’ve learnt that us humans will happily be their ‘mums’ forever. They have therefore created their own kitty language just for us with many different types of “meow’s”. And just like any baby has their own cry that only mums can understand, so does each cat. They have their own unique meow for different things which we, cat parents, learn to identify over time too.
“Most cat owners can understand and respond to their cats.”
Tip for Cat Sitters: There’s nothing better than being welcomed by a sweet little meow and a purr. But if your kitty client is a little more territorial and you’re faced with a moody growl then have a read to see how to deal with angry cats here.
